I have been a chicken momma for just over a year. I raised two 10-day-old red stars, and I also have a feral rooster that I rescued as a day old chick. This has been my flock for a year. Recently I have been wanting more docile lap chickens and looked for silkies, but none were available. At a poultry show a few weeks ago I purchased a 2 year old Pekin hen. A few days later I managed to get a 4 month old silkie chick. I introduced them and there was no aggression whatsoever.
They do hang out together but not always. I'm so used to my Red stars being inseparable, I feel like maybe they would both be happier with their own age and species. Am I right, or should I just be happy they get along and try not to overthink it ?

Your red stars are buddies most likely because they were brooded together, more than because they're the same breed.
In my experience, if you give them enough time eventually they will become more friendly with each other and feel more like one group.

Yes.
But these observations will teach you about chicken 'society'.

If it's not broken, don't fix it. That's how things get broken.

I think a lot of that behavior has more to so with one being 2 years old and the other 4 months than it does breed. Give the Silkie time to mature.
