I have been a chicken momma for just over a year. I raised two 10-day-old red stars, and I also have a feral rooster that I rescued as a day old chick. This has been my flock for a year. Recently I have been wanting more docile lap chickens and looked for silkies, but none were available. At a poultry show a few weeks ago I purchased a 2 year old Pekin hen. A few days later I managed to get a 4 month old silkie chick. I introduced them and there was no aggression whatsoever.
They do hang out together but not always. I'm so used to my Red stars being inseparable, I feel like maybe they would both be happier with their own age and species. Am I right, or should I just be happy they get along and try not to overthink it ?

Your red stars are buddies most likely because they were brooded together, more than because they're the same breed. :)
In my experience, if you give them enough time eventually they will become more friendly with each other and feel more like one group. :)

If it's not broken, don't fix it. That's how things get broken.

I think a lot of that behavior has more to so with one being 2 years old and the other 4 months than it does breed. Give the Silkie time to mature.
