A few years ago, we were mowing my pasture. A couple hours later, a freshly hatched pheasant literally walked up to my back porch. We fed and cared for it expecting the worst. She survived the night and became my best friend over the next several weeks. We started a non-profit art studio together. While she did not make it with all her ambitions, she taught me tons. I have since bought and raised a flock (11) of chickens. Much to my apprehension after losing her, but my flock is amazing. I just lost my first hen a year later. While seeking how to help her, I ran across this site. My beauties mean the world and am excited to be a part of this community.

Loved your pheasant story. When I was a kid living in the country, a pigeon flew in one day and "adopted" us. Although he could have left at any time, he chose to stay in a large rabbit hutch until the day he died. It's amazing when a wild thing chooses to live with us.

Best wishes with your chickens, and a big BYC welcome to you and your beauties!
