We've been treating one of our hens for the last three days who we believe, by us and our vet, was bitten by something.
One side of her head was badly swollen as was the upper eyelid. She was very miserable, hunched up, not eating and not wanting to free range with the others, she kept making soft noises to let me know she was unhappy. Vet gave her a cortisone injection and we’ve been rubbing cream in and around the eye. She’s now back to normal, swelling has gone in the head and eye.
I suspect she’s been foraging in the grass and come across something. It’s been an awful wet winter and then we suddenly had high temperatures, which have disappeared again, so insects have been out earlier. We’ve had warning that tiger mosquitoes are out in force.
