My wife and mother in law finally made it to TSC today and came home with 12 chicks (mom got 2)...6 are White Leghorn pullets and the rest are straight run "Feather Feet Bantams", whatever that means. Of the 4 bantams we kept, 3 have 5 toes and dark feet, the other has 4 toes and is clean-legged.

We're new at owning baby chicks, but is it too much to hope that we ended up with 3 silkies on our first try? We have been discussing the breeds we'd like to have, and silkies seem to be very popular in our house!!

I'l post pics as soon as I'm able of all the new additions.

Very Exciting!

Our TSC had silkies last week. Our barn/coop is too cold for Silkies, but they were very cute. There are some very good Silkie breeders out there too.

Let's see pic soon.

Happy Country Hens.

I have banned myself from TSC... I can't stand the temptation of "just looking" and don't want to risk ending up with cockerels. I'd guess dark feet/five toes as silkies

Post pics if you can...

Is this a silkie? What color? We have 3 like this one....

Silkie? Feathered feet, can't tell by pic but there are definitely 5 toes!

No idea what the dark one is, sort of chipmunk colored...any ideas?

the one that looks like a chipmunk is most likely an ameraucana. Looks like my chicks.

Sultans also have 5 toes and are pale yellow like your chicks with a fluffy headdress. If it were a Silkie it would have black skin. That is my guess for those chicks. I have two bantam Sultans hens and they are sweet. They laid well through the winter a medium white eggs.

Let me tell you, that TSC bug is so contagious, use caution around your friends! Our TSC gets in two or three white silkies with every assorted bantam lot of 25. Some seem of poor quality and others seem good enough. I am quite sure you got 3 white silkies! Now, not only are you infected with the TSC bug, the Silkie bug will be multiplying in you like a crazy strain of the flu. I can't say this is bad though. I go every week to our TSC and buy just the silkies, but with that stoopid gotta buy six (only six??? how possible?) I end up with an assortment of brooder mates for them. If you really do like the breed, seriously, there are some very fine breeders on this site that can hook you up. Such lovely birds, you won't be sorry you have them.
