I feel sad, My Turkys (Gus-Gus & Girlie) got Auctiond off at the Fair last night, got $114.00 for them ($2.60 per LB) but I got attached to the little (well, not so little anymore) buggers. They are the first turkys that I have EVER owned... It is to quiet at home now & my pen looks empty...

They go tomorrow (have to stay at fair until sunday night). Im spoiling them as much as I can till that... Showed Girlie in showmanship yesterday too (got first place!).... I hope its quick & painless & he is taken good care of until he goes to the butcher... I need to get some haretige breed turkys to keep as pets & maybe raise a fue clutches... dont need to auction THEM off. Im going to do it again next year but by then I will have MY turkys (hope they are as dcile as these guys).
If im sitting down Girlie will lay right next to me or on my lap & fall asleep. Gus likes to be hugged. :sigh: I wish I had taken more pictures while I had the chance

I have about 20 more hours with them & I still need to sleep... Time flys

On the up side I have baby chicks (chickens) that started hatching yesterday.

I remember how hard it was for my kids to give up their 4-H birds after the auction. Better if you don't make such pets out of them, but I know it's hard when you have to use one of them for showmanship.

Take of good photo of the two of them, and put it in an album. Put the $$ in your college fund. When you go off to college, look at the photo and thank them for helping you along in your life. That's what my kids did.

Thanks.
well, I didnt know how attached I got to them until I had to auction them... The buyer never showed up to pick them up & the fair board hasnt been able to contact them so I guess I get to keep them

Where I live the animals are never eaten. The buyers only want the tax right off and the publicity of buying them. I know I tried buying some for breeding but they went so high I dropped out of the bid. I watch some of the winning bidders give the animals back.

This is what I was going to say. Where I grew up and where we just moved from (different places) the fair was a 'premium buy only.' The buyers didn't really get the animals, they remained with the 4H/FFA kiddos. Maybe your buyer is used to a scenario like that, too? Or else just didn't want them, just wanted to support you and write it off.

I sure hope they paid before they disappeared, though!

I hope so too! my mom & I have been talking about that...
most of the animals around here get eaten, once in a while a store will keep them as a pet or a farm will keep them to breed but mostly they are eaten. I have herd of once in a while an animal will be donated back but they are always re-sold at the same or a difrent auction...

Wow, our kids bidders expected you to deliver the dressed birds!! I'm glad you don't have to slaughter them, but if they're BBW's will they live long anyway?
