I posted this earlier but not sure I did it right so am reposting in this section. Found this in one of the nesting boxes this morning. I have 7 chicks from which I get 6 hard shelled eggs daily. No way to know which hen this might be from. 3 hens are 2 years old and 4 are 1 year old. Have never seen anything like this to date. I would appreciate any thoughts you might have. Thanks.

Do you still have that? If you do, can you cut it open and see what it looks like inside?

That looks like lash egg with a membrane.
Here's some reading for you.

Thanks so much for your info. It is indeed a lash egg. I cut it open and it was exactly like the images on the readings you suggested. It does not seem like there is much hope for her which is very sad as she is such a loving hen. I’m hoping that no others get infected also.

Thanks again.

Salpingitis is not that great of news, it does depend on how advanced and/or if there is more in the oviduct or even in the abdomen (reverse peristalsis).
IF she is a pet, then treating the infection may be something you want to do. This can extend life - if she is seeming bright, eats/drinks and doesn't appear to be going down hill, then that's an option. Treatment is not a cure of course, but....
Tetracyclines (including Oxy and Doxy) are sometimes effective. Some do use Enrofloxacin (Baytril) which is a very good antibiotic, but it is not approved for use in laying hens and you should throw out eggs for a good while - there is not a set "timeline" for egg withdrawal, so you will have to do some research to find what you are comfortable with.
