This was sold to me as a week old Black Australorp. Looked like an australorp chick, but now that it is older some people say it isn't one. It has black legs and white earlobes. It has one feather on each week (under the other ones) that has some white on it - I haven't pulled the wings out to see if it is the whole feather or not though, I've have just noticed it when it was younger. Also, is it a hen or a roo?

Thanks!

It's definetly a Black Australorp. As far as the gender if your just going by the comb it was way to much comb at 12 weeks for a pullet and not enough for a roo!!

But I don't see the roo feathers either (not that I really know what to look for on the feathers) Hope someone with more experience can help you!!

Well, that is what I heard before about the earlobes... someone previously suggested black Andalusian, but I haven't found any photos that look like this one. What about a black marans?

I was also thinking Minorca... I got it from the feed store, so I am not sure which hatchery they use. Maybe I can find out.

Any other guesses? I have some concern it's a roo, but I still think it is a pullet. The comb is developing very slowly even though it is more visible than my other pullets. Maybe she'll lay first?

What's her temperament like? I think she may have red earlobes. Often times they won't turn red until they're getting ready to lay. I vote Australorp, and probably a pullet!
