I ordered Blue Andalusians, and of course, I got splash and blacks also. So, can a person show the blacks? Is it an accepted variety? I checked my 2001 SOP and all they have in there is the Blue.
Any help is appreciated.

BTW, as luck would have it, I have a good colored blue, a light pearlish colored blue and a splash, then I have 3 (a trio) that are black.

You can show the blacks and splash but they are not a standard variety in the breed. Blue is the only standard color for the breed. So if you show blacks or splash you can only go as far as to win the variety.

You want to take the blacks and breed them to the splash..not the black..splash to black is blue black to black is only black and you really don't want that.

Thanks for the input. I understand the crossing to get the colors to achieve the blue, I just didn't know if the blacks could be shown or not.

You can show the blacks and the splash under the "AOV" (Any Other Variety) classification, within the Andalusian breed. That's how you show birds of any breed that aren't of an accepted color for that breed.

Have fun!

I would never enter a bird as an Any Other Variety...enter them by the color that they are. This is a pretty standard practice in APA/ABA shows

You do pick the color that the bird most closely resembles when you enter the bird, but AOV is the classification that the APA uses when that specific color is not accepted for that breed.

That's news to me.

Well, let's see....

Here's one example of an American usage, in the rules and classifications for an APA show in PA:

"
1138 Wyandotte -- Any Other Variety
1170 Cochin -- Any Other Variety
1214 Cornish -- Any Other Variety
1223 Dorking -- Any Other Variety
1311 Leghorn -- Any Other Leghorn Variety
1384 Hamburg -- Any Other Variety
1432 Polish -- Any Other Variety
1507 Modern Game -- Any Other Modern Game Variety"

I could go on, but you get the picture.

There are many other examples out there -- just do a Google search for "any other variety" and APA.

And the same scheme is also used in other countries, Here's an example from Australia:

16. Any other variety, heavy breed, female. Nominate breed.
LIGHT BREED
29. Any other variety, light breed, male. Nominate Breed.

I breed araucanas. We make frequent use of "AOV" when we show our birds!
