some of my roosters and hens are getting black areas on their combs, it is not mites, does anyone know what this might be? what causes it ? and what to do for it??

thanks, angie

Small flat black areas on the comb are usually akin to bruises. They get them from banging into something and pecks from the other chickens.
Raised black areas that look pus-filled can be fowl pox. You can do a search here on BYC about fowl pox.
ETA: Here's what fowl pox looks like: https://www.backyardchickens.com/LC-diseases-AvianPox.html
