Black bantam cochins

View attachment 1988936 I have a black bantam cochin cockerel that has white or faint white colored base feathers. Do black cochins have that? Is it normal or must the feathers be black throughout all the way to the follicle?

I think that's pretty common. A fair amount of our birds are like that here, ranging in colors. I would still call him black, and solid at that. On cocks, it gets pretty easy to see it right at the base of the trail, where the hackles are curving downwards.

I just wasn't sure if black cochins must have black feathers all the way down to the follicle or if white/ faint white is accepted and SOP.
