BLACK BEAR BROKE INTO CHICKEN COOP-PLS HELP

hey guys so today i encountered my first black bear and around 6pm i went out to lock the chickens up i went to go to the coop and my family started screaming at me from the window. after i stopped they started banging pots and a black bear ran out of the coop. didn’t hurt any animals but ripped the nesting box door off and ate some eggs. ur was scared and ran away after we started screaming. we called wildlife and they are coming tomorrow morning to trap it, but i dont have another place for the chickens tonight. i’ve locked they’re door but the coop is a remodeled gardening shed and im worried it will be back. if we scared it that bad will it still come back tonight? i don’t know what to do, all i need is 12 hours before the wildlife experts come. please let me know. i’ve heard if we scare it well enough it might come back in a few days but it might be too scared to come back so soon.

Bears are probably going to come back, if you have electric wire wrap it around the coop but give some space. Good luck!

Do you have cameras? If so that might help you keep an eye on things tonight. If not, you can keep watch if you wish. Unfortunately there's no telling if and when the bear will be back (it probably will be back but it may or may not come back tonight). Animals are unpredictable.

That said, since you're in bear country I highly recommend running electric fence around your run to deter future ursine trespassers

we’re not really in bear country! bears are so rare around here i had no idea we had them till today (i live on an island). i have automatic lights but no cameras im sleeping beside the window right infront of the coop. this is a photo of it for reference. i’m am now realizing my girl robin is missing she’s the white one in the photo. i don’t think it got her though, they all hide when i started banging pots. i’d assume if it came back tonight it would probably rip the door off

i don’t have electric fence and it’s sunday so everything around my small town is closed. might go walk around and bang the pots again real loud before bed.

i have 13 chickens, 4 goats, and 11 ducks. it only targeted the chickens though.

i’m locking up all animals. but i know that doesn’t mean much with a black bear. i have a garage but nothing to contain them in the garage with and its not really suitable for 13 chickens as all the feed and everything is in the there.

yes for sure it’s just not something i can get right at the moment, as it’s 8pm on a sunday here but for future refern
