I have a few black copper maran chicks that were hatched yesterday. what I need to know is are marans cold hardy . They are in my house in their brooder box and I am not putting them outside for quite awhile. but once they get their feathers or about 10 weeks old will I still have to keep a heat lamp on them?

Congratulations on the babies!!! My Blue and Black copper Marans have been fairly hardy. Since day 5 of their lives mine have been outside in my unheated shed with their brooder light. They have thrived and grown and feathered out. I will not be putting them outside untill 12 weeks (crazy I know) but thats because I do not have space for them and other birds that need to be separated out. I love my Marans they are very friendly and nice. I think that if you acclimatize them to the cool or cold temperatures outside they should be fine as long as its not a shock to them.

Good luck with these great birds,
Henry
