Well, I may have gotten ahead of myself but I don’t regret it (yet!).

I ordered 15 BJG’s! 5 males and 10 females. I’ve been enamored by them since we started getting chickens and when we discussed starting our sustainable meat flock I took my window of opportunity and threw some of these biggies in!

I know they are incredibly slow to mature and we have enough space. I just want to know what you wish you had known before getting yours. Any specific tips? They come in August and I’m hoping to keep everyone of them until ATLEAST Spring before I decide who will go and who will stay. Yes, they are hatchery chicks... no awesome Maria Hall or specific breeder birds. I have hopes for that one day but for now, I’m sure I can find some keepers in what I have ordered and will gladly take ANY advice! There’s not a ton of info about them specifically (though I’ve read their story of origin about 6000 times), that’s for sure!

Thanks in advance for any tidbits!

Yes, peruse the National Jersey Giant Club's website which has good articles on how slow they mature, some on nutrition, and color, etc. Also mentions what kinds of defects you may see (if you might show, but also in case you must choose only one or two of those 5 cockerels to keep for breeding.
