Hatching weekly, one of the best cared for lines of Penedesencas in North America.
Chicks normally ship on Monday or Tuesday.

For pictures and the story of the breed, check the following link.

Chicks are $10 each and $30 shipping to the lower 48. Give zip code for cost to PR and VI.
Add $5 per order for heat packs if ordering less than 15 this time of year.

Can you tell me about the egg color? I've heard the partridge lays the darkest egg but not sure about that. What size do yours lay and how would you compare them to a good Marans egg?

The egg color varies dramatically, as I know it does with Marans. The eggs I ship are normally the color of those pictured in the link. I've heard that crele, partridge and wheaten lay darker eggs but others say the black lays the darkest.
I don't think you can attribute it to a variety. When breeding them, one needs to select for the darkest eggs possible - just like any other trait.
The genetics are in the breed but unless you select for the desirable characteristics, those traits will be lost.
I once bought 3 varieties of Marans eggs from a farm that claimed to have Bev Davis and Jean Wade lines of Marans. Those eggs were as light as Jersey Giant eggs. What a disappointment. That's when I decided it isn't the breed and variety but the breeders' dedication.

Size is large to jumbo. As you know, pullet eggs take some time to get some size on them. I don't set eggs below 50 grams but of the 50 eggs due to hatch in 2 days, they range from 50-80 grams. I have to use some jumbo egg trays in the setter to hold them. They don't fit in normal chicken egg trays. My mature hens' eggs are usually in the 65-70+ gram range. The standard in Spain is for 65 gram eggs.
I move lots of birds from building to building frequently so I can't keep an accurate record of production but I'd estimate between 160 and 200 eggs a year.

You can use PayPal, check or money order. PM me with your full address and I'll give you my phone number and email.
I'd like to order 15 chicks. My email address is [email protected]; that's what I use for Paypal as well. Let me know when you will ship and I assume you will send an invoice through Paypal.
I breed and sell Giant Dewlap Toulouse Geese and Sebastopols and have been shipping goslings across the country this spring. Last orders will hatch around 6/15. It's been a fun year but I am always looking for something new! I have no intentions of ever quitting the geese, however. I like the very dark brown egg color and the size of the egg. I have to say I am disappointed in the Marans. At least all the ones I have gotten lay smallish irregular eggs and not many of them. They are the first to quit laying and the first to croak.
Have had Welsummers and also not so impressed. Keep looking for that dark dark egg with nice size, shape and laying ability of hens. Hope this is it!
I have Crele Penedesenca chicks and Partridge that I got from hatcheries, but it is a crapshoot as to egg color, I know.
