I'm going to incubate a black spanish turkey egg, only have one, it was given to me. no clue what to do. not sure if its fertile. do you candle like you would a chicken egg? any tips would be great!!!

If you've got a chicken egg or two that you can throw in the incubator a week after you put the turkey egg in there the baby chick will help the turkey learn to eat and drink. Yes, you can candle the egg in a little over a week to ten days. Just to warn you, I've got turks who are still laying but they're no longer fertile. It's a little late in the season for turkeys.

This time of year mine are still fertile but they do not store. I have to put them right into the incubator the same day they are layed. I hatch them the same as chicken eggs only it takes 28 days.

I candled 2 days ago, and it doesn't look hopeful...doesn't seem fertile. But, I let it set a couple more days. I might candle again tonight to see if there are any signs of it being fertile.
