We are new to chickens. My son joined 4-h and got black star sex linked supposedly hens. This one has been bigger and different color and am questioning if it is a rooster. Is it still to early to tell? It didn't have a white spot on its head like I read.

Age? Not a sexlink, but depending on the age, could be a female
It is 6 weeks old. I was told it was sexlinked and would have a white spot on its head when it was born if it was a rooster and none of it was a hen. The other definitely look like black stars. This one also has the purple highlights when it is in the sun. I am not sure what hatchery 4-h got them, but they guaranteed hens, but this one was bigger then the rest and all black when we got it and slowly changed. The other have the brown/gold color like pictures I found.

I did read they can have silver, but I can't find any pictures.

Black Star females with silver would have silver (white) in the places that other Black Star females have brown/gold.

I think your bird is probably a female, and it might be a Black Star with silver. I am not positive about it being a Black Star, but that does seem as likely as any other ideas I can think of.
