Black Sultan??

I have a black chicken that I am trying to determine the breed on. It came with an assortment of Silkies, but most definitely is not one. I have found a few photos of Black Sultans but not enough close up to tell for sure. Everyone has told me that they can only be white but I have found that they can also be Black or Blue. Any ideas on what else it could be?

Nope, I see black skin and 5 toes. You have a defective Silkie, it just doesn't have silkied feathers.

Black Sultans are very, very rare in the U.S. It's hard to get your hands on one on purpose, not to mention by accident. That being said, Sults have beards, muffs, white skin, slate legs, etc. Your bird is a Silkie cross. Or a Silkie that lacks the Silkie-feathering gene.

I can see silkie like feathers coming from the top feathers. So more than likely it is a silkie mix.

not saying that's its a black sultan but sultans do have 5 toes also, the only differences between a hard feather silkie and a sultan is the type of comb (sultans have a v shaped one and silkies a walnut) Sultans also have vaulted hocks and silkies do not and silkies have black skin hope this helps
