I just recently bought a white bantam cochin male from a very top breeder (PM if you want to know who) and he has alot of black ticking that i was worried about but the breeder said he would be fine to show and breed. But for showing i would need to pluck some of the black feathers out. Would be ok for me to breed him?

Im not sure about the whites and what issues they have concerning color. I know that many top breeders outcross their white to black every 5 years or so to improve the brilliant white color. ...maybe the ticking has something to do with that and it wouldn't affect later generations

I do no that plucking feathers in order to show is a no no

Broken or dirty feathers can be plucked but, I think, ones that are a fault because of genetics shouldn't be messed with.

Is it just a bit of smutty black here and there? I have a hen with a little color like that, and I'm showing her this weekend. I'll find out if it's okay.

It is not really smutty black but he has a few random feathers that are black it is not very noticable unless you look closely.

Thanks Msbear I will not show him.

Yeah, Blueoval, go ahead and show him. If anything, you'll see where he stands and you can ask other breeders about the ticking... maybe they'll have more insight.
