Four times (at least) in the last two weeks, my almost eight-year-old dog (who we've had for five years) has urinated on our kitchen floor. Three of the times I have been in the room at the time, but didn't see her go. This isn't really normal for her. She is completely house-trained, but she does sometimes 'mark' things in the house when anxious or trying to secure her place in the house (if there is a visiting dog in the house, for example). And that is usually on a bed-type material. Our kitchen floor is laminated. So I'm wondering what's going on. Could this be a sign of a bladder infection or some other physical illness?

Thanks!

Sometimes older dogs develop problems with 'holding it in'. we had a doberman that was Always 'leaky' and had accidents. i think theres a medication that can help 'fix' it though.

It also could be an infection..does it smell strange? is there blood?

OMG
I just took the 13 year old dog to the vet, and HE mentioned if she ever did this - it (not saying your dog) is a sign of actually, old age. There is a medication for it, sorry, I threw out the pamphlet, since Jessie isn't having any accidents, but I read it, let me look for it, BRB

I agree she could be leaking due to age.. Expecially if she has had a litter or two...

Is it a dark yellow. Then that could mean she has a bladder infection..

Any way. I would take her to a vet.. Or at least get her urine tested..

I found it - it's called CDS, cognitive dysfunction syndrome.
Signs are: confusion, disoreintation, urinates indoors, barks at night for no reason, etc. the more i read it, the more it really does pertain to Jessie, oops.
Anyway, according to this, dogs ages 8 and older showed at least one sign of CDS. The prescription is called ANIPRYL.

I'm not saying this is what your dog has, but if maybe after exploring all your options, something will work and you can make your dog comfortable and healthy!!!

My mother has a dog that gets bladder infections all the time. She is old but when she has one it smells terrible and she tends to have accidents in the house.

It could be a UTI..or her bladder is just getting weak.
Is she fixed? I've heard that fixed females can have this problem because of the spay surgery...
Either way, i'd bring her in..just to be safe.. You dont want her to suffer with a UTI..
also... when my cocker spaniel came down with Lymes disease..she started to pee in the house too... after she got better, it stopped.

I guess it could be that she's getting old.... She's a Lab/Cocker cross and will be eight next month, but she does not act old in the least. I don't think it could be CDS, jerseygirl, but thank you for telling me about that. She doesn't seem confused or disoriented, and she hasn't been barking without reason...it's just the urinating. I guess maybe I should have said that the first two times she went was on one day (about a week ago) and I think she went twice today. On both occasions the times she urinated was I think less than an hour apart.

What's a UTI? She is fixed, and has never had any puppies (as far as I know – pretty sure, her nipples are not developed as I would assume (after having kitten litters) they would after nursing). The urine was not very dark. Just a pale yellow. No blood.

???

Sorry for being so ignorant, but is that the same thing as a bladder infection?
