Ther were from the year 2007 or 2008.
I was 15 or 16 at the time. Depending on the year.
I had three chickens. A pair of Silver Sebrights. And a hatchery quality Rhode Island Red. All no longer kept. But I look at them to bring back the nostalgic.
I love Sebright bantams. This breed has the perfect lacing pattern. Having a male wasn’t easy in the suburbs. I tired many attempt to incubate her eggs. Never could get one to fully hatch. I never knew how bad their fertility was!
I name them with no cohesion. Bindi and Wilbur. I don’t know what I was thinking back then!
Rhoda was not my initial picked. I wanted Easter Eggers. I bought two EE chicks form my local feed store. One chick didn't survive from unknown cause. I was left with one EE. I didn’t want the lone EE to be alone. I went back to the feed store and bought what I thought was a EE. Nope. This replacement was a Rhode Island Red. Once they outgrown their brooder, both were moved with the older birds. I lost the last EE from again unknown cause. I was so devastated.
I was stuck with Rhoda. I kept an eye out for her when I let them out to have the entire yard. My Sebright were not nice to the newcomers. Especially her! Rhoda knew around me, I was her guardian. She loved to be around me and let me pet her. Unlike my sebrights. Flighty...at least with Bindi. Wilbur was a scary rooster. Always pecking my feet with blood! Sometime would dare to peck at my eyes. But looking back I dearly miss them all. Especially Rhoda. I hope next year would be interesting for me.
I’m planning to restore the coop and have a new set of chickens after 9 years of being absent of keeping chickens. lol
