Hi all.

My old rooster Brutus is bleeding from his right ear. He's about 7ish years old, and lost his right eye in a fight over a year ago. I had noticed the ear looking inflamed this past week, but no other symptoms. He had been hanging by himself the past few days, but he's also an old guy so I did not think too much of it. There was some unexplained blood in the run a few days ago on the feeder and waterer, but could not find the source on anyone. Today I just went to refill the food and saw him hiding, with blood dripping out of his ear. He appears otherwise healthy, just old. Any treatment ideas or potential diagnosis?

Please let me know if you need additional info or photos.

Thanks in advance!

A picture would be helpful. Is there swelling of the ear? How many roosters do you have? I would separate him in a dog crate or pen with food and water, but try to let him be near or see the other chickens. Cleaning his ear with saline, an animal wound spray, or chlorhexidene, and then applying some plain Neosporin ointment would be good.
