I have a chick that just hatched. It didn't hatch the slow way my others are hatching. I was just away from the incubator for 15 minutes and there were no pips, when I came back to it, there was another chick already out of it's shell! I didn't notice in time that it was bleeding from the cord site (I think). I have researched really quickly to see if I could help, and I have put flour on the site and the bleeding has stopped but I don't think I caught it in time :(. I don't have any chick booster and I was wondering if there is anything I might have on hand to help the little chick, as it's still breathing but has no energy at all.

As it crawled around in the incubator, it got blood on other eggs and there's a big spot on the cheese cloth I have on the wire rack. It's beginning to smell a little and I worry about bacteria growing. Can I move eggs and change out the cheese cloth without jepardizing the eggs? We are day 22-23 now, have a couple of pips, but I'm not sure how many more will hatch, and I don't want to hurt their chances by moving them to clean up. What should I do? Leave the blood on the eggs and bator? Or clean up? **sigh**

Thanks in advance...

Congrats on the new chicks! You can give the one chick some sugar water &/or poly vi sol childrens vitamins. Using a eye dropper to give liquids is a little tricky so, I would just put a small amount in a pop cap and dip it's beak in it and see if it will drink a little.
As for cleaning up the brooder if, you have some that have pipped taking them out isn't a good idea because they need the higher humidity so they don't get shrink-wrapped. Hope they hatch for you.

Sadly the little chick didn't make it :( I appreciate the advice on what to give a chick who needs a boost after hatch though.

I have one hatching as I type this, 3 more pips, and many more eggs in the incubator too. That blood and stuff just from the first three hatching is really making me want to clean it up. I guess with this being my first time to hatch, I didn't realize how messy this could get.
