I have a hen laying an egg with an identical blemish every time. It looks like a dark, calcified area on the bottom of the egg. Probably happened at least 6 eggs in a row now.

What is it? Anything to worry about? Thanks.

Some chickens lay eggs with stuff in them, and stuff on them, I can tell who laid each egg based on size, color, and other things like extra calcium spots like you are seeing, it's normal, and since you continue to see them they might just be what that hen will lay, in large production those eggs get put into things like cake mixes, and powdered eggs, they only sell the perfect. So nothing to worry about.

Are your eggs brown? I see this in the brown egg layers fairly often. It is nothing to be concerned about. If it is dirty due to 'waste' then you might want to look into worming the birds, especially if it is consistence, but if it is just part of the egg, it is just fine. The pigment for the egg color will sometimes 'spot' the egg. It is nothing more that an excess of color for that egg. I don't hardly ever see this in the white eggs.

Best to you and your eggs,

RJ

Here's a informative site and a good egg chart to see the different kinds of conditions that produce different shell appearances.

It sounds like this is perfectly normal for that hen, but it is good to check into it to make sure it isn't insufficient nutrition, dirty nest box, or some other disruption. If the hen was laying perfectly normal eggs then started an oddly irregular color, going very pale, that is often a sign of illness such as Infectious Bronchitis or Newcastle.

But consistently laying an egg with the same oddity sounds like simply the laying pattern of that hen.
