Looking for advice. We notice today that one of our 13 chicks now about 4 weeks is smaller than the rest and defiantly malnourished. she cheeps all the time. We brought her into the house and we now think she is blind. She did have a little pop, but wont go the small feeder of water or food. She pecks at the ground randomly and will eat wood chips. Did not notice if she got any of the food I put in font of her. My husband got out a little pice of bread and managed to get her to take a little bit of it. These are only our second batch of chicks. We are brand new to this. We dont want to see her suffer, but not sure there is much hope for her at this point.

Can you get a video, testing her vision? I'm thinking possibly a Vitamin A Deficiency is what maybe what's going on.

To tell if she is blind move your finger close to her eye. If it dilates or she blinks, she is not blind. If not then she is blind. Do this to both eyes.
Sometimes they can still catch some shadows, & cause a slight blink if they're blind, or partially blind.

My boy had a couple different vitamin deficiencies going on at the same time. First time I ever dealt with it. He made a full recovery.

umm she may not be, my kid stuck his finger above her face and she pecked it. More than once. I tapped on the food dish and she is now eating. I wonder what is going on with her.

Sounds like you got a slow chick, or a runt then.

I will keep her in the house and hope she. improves. If its vitamin deficiency is there anything I can do for a few days to get by? I can order something but it may take days or weeks to get here and I dont think our local place ( 30 Min Drive ) Will have anything.

If you have any human vitamin B complex capsules, you can give some of this to her dissolved in a little water with sugar added or molasses.😊

I'd just give her more extra attention right now, make sure she's getting enough to eat, & drink for now.

Now that she has eaten and had little water off my finger she is sleep soundly. When I 1st got her in she was cheeping while sleeping. I hope this means we are on the start to recovery. Poor thing.
