So I’ve had a group of four quail for awhile. Recently Some guy near me was getting rid of his quail for free as he was getting out of them. I took them in. One of the females has a messed up wing, like old break or something. Actually sat out there for awhile today and noticed she was moving her head weird(stretching neck as if checking). Decided to check on it, and she’s fully blind. Didn’t notice before as she acts normal.

Anyways, story time over. Is there a way to accommodate for her blindness? I have a hen who’s blind in one eye and have helped blind animals before, never blind outdoor birds though. I don’t move food and water in the enclosure, just branches and hides occasionally. So she won’t have to search for that. But is she okay to stay outside with the group? We have 9 quail at the moment. 2 males and 7 females.

This is my first year owning quail so I consider myself a newbie. That was a long ramble, sorry!! Thanks for any help.

It's great you took the quails in. I have two half blind chickens at home and there was a fully blind chicken at the hatchery we get our chickens from. They accommodated her by putting her with younger chooks and chicks and kept her food and water dishes in the same place so she knew where to go. She was amazing. The main thing you have to consider is bullying. Even my half blind chickens get bullied because of their disability so she may have to be separate or with one nice quail.
