Hello! I have a 5 year old Starlight Green Egger named Peggy. For the last few days, shes had the Penguin stance. But she still poops and eats. Ive given her warm soaks and calcium. Tips or Vet contacts would be amazing. In London KY area. Thanks! Comment what photos you may need.

Has she laid any eggs in awhile? Have you seen any unusual or thin shelled/shell-less eggs in the nest boxes? She could be egg bound, but many hens with salpingitis or internal laying will stand with a wide stance or more upright, or waddle like a penguin, and prefer to sit around. Does her crop empty overnight, and does she have any enlargement of her lower belly? What do her poops look like?

Oh yes, her upright posture looks like she is suffering from salpingitis, and probably egg yolk peritonitis. Antibiotics rarely help at this stage. I would make her comfortable as possible, and offer foods that she likes such as scrambled egg and mushy wet chicken feed. If she seems to be suffering, it might be time to consider putting her down.

What can I do to make her comfortable or give her a chance?
