Hey all you wonderful people out their in the chicken world. I seem to have run into a slight problem with some of my leghorn babys. They are quite bloated and get to the point where its almost impossible to walk or move. It looks as if its a water-bloat because when i pick them up water runs out of their mouths. I think that the chicks may be bloating so much their lungs get compressed as the bloated ones are seen gasping for air. Ive raised chicks for years and leghorns in particuliar for 3 and never had a problem like this. Only some leghorns are being affected and no symptoms in my other breeds of chicks. Most are a week old. Some only a couple days, Please help

I'm not sure, but I think most bloat situations in chicks are disease related. What is your feed and water situation? Any pasty butt? What kind of bedding are you using?
All other chicks are fine. I’m using the same brand/type of medicated chick starter that I’ve been using for years. And the same vitamins for the water that I’ve had no problems with in previous years. Butts on them look good. I’m using Pine shavings

Are they pooping?
Do you provide chicks with grit?

I'm going to assume that you mean their crop is full of fluid/liquids since water is coming from their beaks. What do the crops feel like - hard, soft, doughy, fluid filled, etc.?
Just a guess, likely they have been eating shavings and now have a blockage.
Make sure they are drinking well, give them 1/2 tsp coconut oil. Hopefully this will help them pass whatever is causing the partial blockage.

Photos of brooder set-up and chicks are always welcome.
