Blond chick from French Black Copper Marans eggs

I am wondering if anyone else has had a blond chick hatch from French Black Copper Marans egg? I will post pictures tomorrow - at the moment the chick is in the just hatched and wet phase!

My understanding is the black coppers tend to harbor recessive Wheaten genes. That would throw a light chipmunk colored chick.

If it has chipmunk stripes it could be a corrupted Golden Salmon ( wildtype) . No, one can't breed proper Golden Salmon from it because the chick also will be carrying melanizers genes. which will give any light chicks "burned" looking blackening on the light feathering.
It could be a Wheaten chick but again, all kinds of problems coming from a Black Copper. I would not breed it. Another problem is that your parent birds are both obviously carriers of either e+ or ...( more likely ) eWh ( Wheaten) genes.
This has been a real problem in Marans. Before your go any further with your breeding project, contact a veteran breeder like Bev Davis ( Bev's Marans ) or Brenda Little ( Little Peddler Marans ) and discuss it with them, sending pics of your chicks. They can advise you on whether to start over with new stock or try to breed past the problem. That last thing the Marans breed needs is more Black Copper carrying anything othe than pure Black Copper color genes. No one is going to buy a Black Copper Marans which is carrying Wheaten genes or buy a Wheaten Marans out of Black Copper Marans. The breed has been fighting to get Wheaten out of Black Copper birds for over a decade. Email Bev or Brenda and they can counsel you on how to proceed.
