I went outside to check on my birds and Hermione, my White-Faced Black Spanish, had a slightly raised back and was walking funny. I spend a lot of time around my chickens so I can tell when something was off. I immediately checked her vent and there was a bloody, bubbly string of liquid in her vent feathers and some blood around the cloaca. Her crop is also squishy but I don't know if that has anything to do with it, I think she just drank a lot of water. Her breath smells fine. She is acting normal except for the slightly raised back end and funny gait - she's eating, drinking, moving around, she's not lethargic or anything. What should I do? I'm really worried about vent prolapse or something. We're about to leave for a few days and we can't cancel this trip. I'm willing to bring her to the vet today if I have to. Please help!

Hi! do you have pics? it could be prolapse because my chicken has it right now and it is bloody from all the other chickens and herself pecking at it.

Btw, her poop last night looked normal and she layed an egg yesterday morning

UPDATE: almost definitely a prolapse. I saw her trying to push something red out. I'm giving her a warm Epsom salt bath right now and I'm going to give her some oyster shell and she's had yogurt. What next?

Hi! Can you give her calcium citrate? It's a highly absorbable version of calcium, get the cheap generic stuff at your local pharmacy or wal.mart
I don't think we have any right now but I'll check the pantry, thank you. I can ask my dad to get it at the store on the way home if not 😁
