Hey! I have a 3 week old pekin whose blood feathers are so coming in- the tip broke on one and I was quick to stop it from bleeding with quick stop- do I still need to pull it if I got to it right away?

Thank you so much!!!! I grabbed my first aid kit super fast and it’s my first duck injury ;(
Steel yourself for the future. I am currently caring for 4 rescue drakes and two of them have bill injuries. One caught himself on a lower branch of a conifer tree [I think] and lacerated the middle of his upper bill. Some blood, no drama, now has healing black scar. The other caught his bill on the pen that separates him at night from another drake that he is prone to bullying. I came in the morning to find blood everywhere -- the water pot was full of blood the two white ducks were splashed in blood and the white muscovy had blood all over his shoulders. It looked like a war zone but there was no sign of fighting. Water tubs and food bowls were where they should be and were not filled with pine shavings from a kerfluffle. The boys' demeanors were all normal. I grabbed the boy with blood on his shoulders and found he had a torn tip of his bill near his bean with a full thickness of the upper bill gash. I realised he had injured himself and later put his head in the waterpot while still bleeding and then put his head under his wing to sleep getting blood on his shoulders in the process. I thrust his head in a clean pot of water to clean up the bill and see the damage. He promptly shook his head splashing me and the nearest duck with blood stained water -- hence splashes on him and the other white duck. That was as much drama as I want this year!!!

But your ducklings will get into scrapes and get cuts and abrasions on their feet and bills. just keep an eye open for foot problems -- wounds on feet need special care to keep infection at bay. But wounds on bills, not matter how bad, will heal themselves in time
