What gives?? No rooster around and one egg had a considerable amount of blood inside.

Usually a little bit of blood in the egg is called a blood spot or a meat spot. It has nothing to do with fertility, is normal and does not affect the quality of the egg. However, I'm not sure what "a considerable amount of blood" might mean. Hopefully, someone else will have that answer for you.

It was more than spot , lime a streak of blood. Filled a spoonful when we scooped it out

So, I did some searching on here and even found a picture of an egg with the amount of blood that you are describing. One of the posters with a TON of experience had said back then that it was nothing to worry about, just a glitch, likely a broken blood vessel during egg production.
