I found some really bloody droppings under my beloved Ravioli’s spot on the roost this morning. She is a transplant from a neighbor’s flock and joined ours about a year and a half ago, so I am a bit unsure of her age. But I know for certain it’s at least older than 3. If I’m guessing honestly I would say she is going on 5 just based on how long he had he and the story behind her. My point being I don’t think she’d have the strain of coccidiosis that would cause intestinal bleeding, but someone please correct me if I am wrong. I have corid on hand and can start it asap.

At that she is acting fine anyways, ate scratch this morning and is chipper as always. I do know they’re her droppings bc I checked her back end thinking it could be an injury and I saw smear of blood on her feathers and vent and bloody poop, but no injury.

Their diet is just laying pellets, some scratch/BSFL mixed in a few times a week (I know I know, we’re trying to cut back) and lately scraps from the garden like tomato and cucumber bits. But they haven’t had any of those in a few days. Yesterday morning I did mix in the rest of my non fat plain Greek yogurt (about 1/4 of a cup) with a bowl of water and their pellets to make a mash and they ate that for breakfast.

The only other thing I can think to mention is it was really rainy the past two days and they ate a lot of worms after the rain when I let them out.

Their run is on dirt and is partially covered, so it was wet ground, but not muddy. We also live on what I think is an old (think 1920s) dump site and I’ve found shards of broken glass in the alley and on the ground of the lot next door. But never any in our yard. It’s not an impossible thought that there could be any they could’ve found.

Thoughts??

Could she be getting vent pecked by others? Worms and tapeworms can cause blood in droppings, but that is significant blood. It would not hurt to treat for coccidiosis with Corid if it isn’t vent pecking or worms.

I thought maybe she was getting pecked, but I saw no signs of injury. She is the lowest in the pecking order. I will check her again shortly.

I can consider starting a deworming treatment, too. I have Valbazen on hand. Is it okay to do that in combination with corid, though?

She does lay soft eggs once in a while, but I can’t imagine that one would cause that much bleeding. She did lay a relatively solid one two days ago.

She’s acting so chipper and normal. Talking to me, crazy to get out of the run this morning, asking for food. Follows me to her spot I sneak out treats specially for her and looks up at me expectantly and bubububups waiting for some.

I looked all around their run just now and in the coop and see no further bloody droppings. I’m sort of at a loss. I’ll bring her in later today and wash her back end, because she does have some poop stuck on that needs to come off anyways, but that way I can look closely and see if there is a hidden pecking wound. Other than that I’m at a loss and I’ll just keep an eye on her closely.

Here she is just now happy and alert as can be.

I watched her poop completely normal poops today and cannot find a pecking injury. She laid a soft egg, which although abnormal itself, it is not abnormal for her. That’s another story in itself.

Just puzzled on this one. But I guess I’ll update if I see anything tomorrow.

It is a puzzle sometimes.

But yes, to answer the question above, you can use Corid and Valbazen at the same time.

Thank you both, I appreciate your expertise and advice.
I'm so sorry my friend you are dealing with this! Hope she is okay! :hugs
Thanks, CC! She’s looking alright so far, thankfully. 🙏
