Hi there,
We have 3 hens approx. 24 wks. old that have just started laying. Our Ameracauna has laid 2 eggs in the last 4 days. The first egg had a lot of blood on it and the second much bigger egg had a streak blood on it. My son also noticed a dropping with blood in it in the chicken coop on the day that she did not lay an egg. And my daughter believes she saw Dercie (the Ameracauna) have a very watery poo today (day 4 in her laying history)
I am hoping the blood may be somewhat common with first time layers, but the signs in her droppings of blood and possible diarrhea have me worried. Not only is she a first time layer, but so are we. We have had the hens for three months and two are laying now, one with no signs of blood one with.
These are free-range hens being fed pullet pellets as we also have 7, three month old pullets. I did watch Dercie for some time today and she seems healthy and clean, but I did not see her poo.
Thank you for any advice you can offer!
Susan
