Today my bantam Silver Lakenvelder really struggled to lay her egg. She's been consistently laying about 3-4 each week without a problem. Her eggs are getting bigger, almost as big as the other flock members who aren't bantams. Today she squawked and scolded for nearly 2 hours before finally producing one covered with poop and bloody smears. No roosters, all girl flock. Another issue is that for a couple of weeks she's not been able to make it to the nesting box. She just stops and drops the egg wherever and those have had poop on them too even though freshly laid. I searched the forums and it seems the blood problem usually happens with new layers. Should I be concerned? Any help/advice appreciated!
