Not sure what to think of this egg. I don't know which hen laid it as I only have black australorps. I will check everyone's vent tonight when they return to the run.
We have two girls are just aging into their first lay and three days ago I found 2 soft-shelled eggs that had been laid from the roosting bars. Gave everyone a Calcium Citrate +D3 and checked everyone's vent - all seemed okay. The next day found 2 more soft-shell eggs, gave another Calcium Citrate + D3. Today, no soft-shell eggs. When I collected eggs from an open lay box, I found the pictured egg.
I thought it looked like blood so when I came in I washed the eggs and the substance came off. Again, I will check everyone out tonight to make sure vents are okay and that nothing seems off.
Is this something I should be worried about if I don't find anything obviously wrong with anyone's vent?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
