For about a week or so I have been getting blood on one of my hens eggs. It's only this hen. It is not an excessive amount but just a little smear, it's been on all her eggs lately. This hen used to lay multiple eggs in one day but has slowed to 1.....occasionally 2.....eggs per day. Do I need to be concerned, she is acting normal otherwise.

Why did you delete your post @tripletfeb
Because I was trying to be nice but it doesn't seem worth it sometimes. But my reponse was, as long as your hen is acting fine, she's ok. Laying an egg is hard work and tissue gets stretched and sometimes it bleeds. Have you ever seen an egg being laid? Tissue comes out with the egg and gets stretched but it's nothing to worry about. Just make sure she's getting enough calcium to keep the shells strong

i appreciate the help. Remember you are helping my hen, not me

No i haven't, she pants alot when she is about to lay, like really hard.

Thanks! She is on a higher calcium food and has oyster shell.

I don't mind helping you either. Her panting, how hot is it where you live? Panting is normal too, it's hard work. They will pant more in hot weather

It's really hot, like high 90s, she is also NOT heat tolerant so it's probably a combination of all these things. Thanks!

Two eggs a day? That's a lot of work to push so many eggs a day. If this is the case the hen is most likely worn out and she could have reproductive problems along the way. Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do at that point. But to answer your question about the blood she should be okay.

Ok thanks, she was laying 3 or sometimes 4 a day!! I heard she could have issues, hopefully she doesn't.

3 or 4 eggs a day? I highly doubt that, almost impossible in fact. You have more layers than you know about. Or someone is playing a joke on you
