A couple of my young hens are laying eggs with blood on the exterior of the shell. Why?

It will clear up. Lots of unusual things happen with pullets. There will be some tearing sometimes with the first few eggs and hence blood. Speckles aren't usually blood but a collection of coloring.

Well, it's been happening on and off for two or three months now. It's not speckles but actual smears.

Wait a little bit longer. It sounds minor and not uncommon right now. If it persists though, something may be wrong. Highly doubtful though. She's still a pullet layer.
