Hey all, I am worried about my feather child Poulet. A couple days ago we notice my going on 8 year old silkie roo was limping a little bit. Nothing to be concerned about, but we figured his spurs were too long and curling into his foot. Two days ago I used the potato trick to remove his spurs and gave him a bit of a trim. The spurs bled more than I was comfortable with but I haven't done this before and mom mom assured me this was normal. Two days later his spurs are black and still slightly oozing. On one of them there appears to be a bit of a blood blister? He has also had trouble with feather growth for years and I thought it was just a genetic defect. Now I am reading this could be mites? When I gave him a bath after trimming his spurs it seemed like the scales around the spurs want to peel of in a skin like layer. This is the white area around the spurs you can see in the pictures. What is going on with my baby? Should I make an emergency appointment with a vet? Any thoughts are much appreciated :hit

I would avoid using the hot potato method for spur removal. It appears you may have burned his spur quicks. They will eventually heal on their own. I wouldn't do anything but monitor them for infection.
His scales look lifted and he has a lot of broken leg feathers. I would start treating him for SLM.
Is he staying indoors or back out in the coop? Because I wouldn't want to put anything on his legs that might freeze, I would bring him in and spray his legs with LiceFreee Spray getting it right up under the scales and let his legs dry well then put him back with his flock. I would do this every other day for 2 to 3 weeks making sure his legs have fully dried before putting him back out in the cold.
