Hi there,

I'm new to turkeys, but this is a common problem with chickens. Go to your local farm store and pick up either some Wonder Dust or Blu-Kote, both antiseptics. For the Wonder Dust, you puff on this dust and it turns the area a dark gray color. For the Blu-Kote, it's a spray and it turns the area dark purple (it's a permanent stain, so watch out for your clothes). The chicks are after the pink or red color, so seeing blood they will cannibalize each other in a heartbeat. Either of these two products should curb the problem pretty quickly.

Good luck,
Jen

Keep stuff in the brooder to keep them busy. They like shiny stuff, like eyeballs and moist butts. Put polka dots on the walls and watch them "chase" those little bugs. scatter marlbes or decorative glass stones in the bottom of the brooder. I even hung an old (very strong) beaded necklace down into the brooder for them to chase and they loved it. You may need to separate him if he won't stop, they will literally pull the insides out of the other poults. I used the blue kote on mine.

I pur some malbles and small bird toys in the brooder box and I also drew red and black dots on the walls. I think it is helping.

Now the problem is one of the babies that I have been doctoring, is not looking so good.
I put ointment on the butts and that blu powder stuff. I have been cleaning and doctoring them, but I think one may not be able to poop now.
I have been using an ointment with a vasaline base. I have seperated this little guy, and he won't sit down. I know, if he can't poop, he will probably die.

Does anyone have any more ideas?

change the light from white to red!! white lights cause picking, dark lights don't show the wound as well, its the color that cause them to pick!! rule 1 in brooding all poultry no white lights! tom!!!!!!!!!

had lots of problems with white lights, and egg eating in laying shed, changed all lights from white to red or blue, all heat lamps are red!! 7,500 poults later, I'm a turkey farmer, its not just a hobby! half the stuff these guys say is just trial and error, my methods are proven and I produce strong healthy poults! got 53 eggs in the incubator, 50 beltvilles,1 bourbon red and 2 chocolate! but yea keep using that white light see how it works for you!!!!! I'll pass tom!!!!!!!!!
