I have five chicks, all three weeks old. One of them pooped red this morning. I'm assuming this is bloody feces. And from reading it may be coccidiosis. The rest seem fine. I did take them to the outdoor run a few times this week because it was so nice out. Should I not have done this? The chick seems fine and is running about. I keep them in the indoor brooder still.

Thanks for any help on this matter.

It is fine to put chicks out on pasture as long as they can get to the warmth, or for short periods of time. I put my chicks on pasture at three weeks, with total access to their heat lamp as they run in and out of the coop, unless I brood in winter.

There is such a thing as shed intestinal lining (normal) that looks like mushy blood/tissue. Blood in the poo will be more liquid from my experience.

At three weeks though I'd pretty much be ever so cautious and treat for coccidioisis at the drop of a hat.

It may help you to see the poo page.

Yes they can still seem fine, have bloody poo, and have coccidiosis- I lost one the next day one time.

Corid treats more strains of cocci than Sulmet, and is in the cattle section of the feed store.

Thank you. It does look more like the normal poo. It worried me though. I will keep an eye on the poo, lol, and maybe I should pick up some of the corid in case I need it.

Thank you so much.

The bloody poo was getting worse, so I got some Sulmet (they didnt have any Corid). I have treated for two days now and the poo looks normal again. I'm so glad. They will be four weeks old on Sunday. And they are looking happy and playing, and they are growing so fast :)
