I am just learning about chickens and have 7 , 6wk old hens. This morning I noticed some of the chickens were pecking at ones back side. I found that they had picked her raw. I have quarentined her but don't know what to do next. Is there a DR. in the house?

I am going threw the same thing now! I'm also a novice, so take this for what it's worth. My plan is to keep her separated until her wounds heal and then reintroduce her at night by putting her in with them while they are roosting. It's hard when this happens during heat waves...so much to think about.

This happened to me with my first set of new chicks a couple of weeks ago. They were all pecking at one and she lost most of her wing. She has healed up nice without any medical intervention (I only separated her from the others), but every time I try to put her back in the other chicks they peck her again immediately.

There are many recommendations on this site of different things you can apply to the wounds to make them unappealing to the other chicks. But since I'm new too I don't remember what they are... :)

Hey thanks for the reply.Riley B. I have her separated and tried to put some Neosporin on her, but it wouldn't stick to the wound. She seems happy and healthy otherwise. Thanks again.

I had an all white chick break a couple of tail feathers when she was about 5 weeks old. She barely lost any blood from them, just enough to turn her tail tip red every couple a days. The other chicks thought it would be fun to peck. I had no blood stop powder from the feed store so I used corn startch. It TOTALLY worked. stop bleeding and disguised the reddish color back to her natural white...lol
