I have 8 hens, well pretty sure 8 hens. Might be 7 hens and a rooster
Anyway, my question is I have two Blue Americuana that are certainly number 7 & 8 on the pecking order because they are a couple of weeks younger than the remaining flock. A few days ago, Blue started crowing. Blue's face looks very much like the other Americuana. Just their coloring is different. Blue is much more colorful around the wings.
Can a rooster be at the bottom of the pecking order?
Is it possible I have the rare hen tha
t just makes sounds like a rooster?
All I really know is it's 6:20am and I can hear it crowing from my bedroom. I'd be heartbroken to have to give it up in my backyard flock. At about 18 weeks old, what is the surefire way to tell the sex? Nether Have starting laying eggs.
I posted a pic of both of them for comparison. Pretty sure it's the darker one crowing.
Also here is a link to a video of it in action:

The last picture looks like Saddle feathers to me I think a rooster. Esp if it is crowing
Sorry

Yup, that's a rooster. Only males have the trademark "rooster red" across the wings like that. Most females will have a more solid pattern, whereas males have more splotches of color with that distinctive deep red coloring the wings. Add in the crowing, the saddle feathers, cascading longer tail feathers, redder comb, and crowing... and there's plenty of positive proof.
