At first I thought we had egg-eating chickens and increased availability of oyster shell. However, just last night I walked in on a blue bird flying out of one of the nesting boxes. I had just set some clean eggs out of the way in a different box in order to clean up the mess in another box from the previous broken egg. One of the clean eggs was now broken/eaten into. No chickens had entered the coop and the only bird exiting was that blue bird. We don't have an enclosed run and the coop is pretty much wide open due to a temporary set up after a barn fire demolished our hen coop. We had no issues before this except for what I suspected to be an occasional toe nail puncturing a thin-shelled egg.
Any ideas to deter these pests?
