My 3 blue copper marans have been laying brown eggs for the last 8ish weeks - and now 2 days in a row I have found an almost white egg. I thought that it was definitely one of my 17 week old EEs but the camera in the coop shows no signs of them laying in there, just the marans. Should I be worried that’s something’s wrong, does this happen for various reasons, or is this just poor egg color quality in a hen?
Since you were getting dark eggs for a while, either you have a new layer (lays lighter eggs), or you have a few "oops" eggs that didn't get as much brown as usual. Either one is possible.
Sometimes a hen will lay an egg that didn't get the usual amount of brown coating in the last layer of the shell. If that happens, the shell might also be a bit thinner than usual. If you go back to just getting dark eggs, that is probably what happened.
