blue corn

Is it possible to purchase cracked blue corn for chickens or red/brown? My son wants to do a Science Fair Project on color preference in chicken diet. I did a quick Google search and didn't see anything. I will look more in depth, but thought I'd ask here too. Thanks!!

I've never seen cracked blue or red corn for sale, but you can find whole corn and crack it with an inexpensive grinder.


The corn itself probably won't be cheap... perhaps a healh food store in your area has it in bulk. Failing that:

Thanks! I am hopeful we can get a 10 pound bag donated. I would rather not dye cracked corn, but for the small amount the chickens would be fed, I guess we could.

If his experiment is supposed to be color based, you'd want to have the same exact food (tasting) in different colors. So get regular corn and dye it. The running thought is that red is an attractive color to them it would be an excellent experiment to see if red really does attract them.

Hmm, I've seen blue corn meal for sale before at Whole foods.
