Hello, it is great to finally join BYC.
My one year old Black Sex Link, Blue, was attacked by a fox (or maybe cat) last week. She managed to escape and I rushed her to the vet immediately. Ten or so stitches later, she came through like a champ but then quickly developed a prolapsed oviduct. I treated her with daily clean ups, bacitracin and honey. Two days later, I had her back at the vets to have a bound egg removed. The very kind and excellent vet used a catheter with saline solution and surgical lubricant to coax the egg out intack!
Bue appears fine( eating, drinking and is perky) but has not laid another egg in two days and the area under her tail end appears swollen and feels warm.
Should I look into injectable antibiotics? I've read Nexel can be used...
Thank you for any help!

I think you need to repost this question in the emergencies/diseases/cures section. You have a valid question that needs to be answered and you will get a better answer there, than being here. More folks looking in that section.

But I would say you do need to watch that spot on her to see if it does not heal that maybe she does need antibiotics. Maybe she just needs time to heal. And the warmth and swelling may only be the healing process. I have never had an egg bound girl yet, so I have never dealt with it.

But this is the place to be for learning! So again, repost this question there and I am sure you will get some better answers from some folks that have had this issue.

Again, welcome aboard!

Thank you so much everyone for the warm welcome! Blue is looking much better, her oviduct is back in but she still may be egg bound, I will know more tomorrow after her check up at the vet.
