We have a hen we bought today that lays blue eggs and has no tail. Breeder said her breed can have a tail or not have a tail and (mind you us being in Belgium) said the breed started with either an A or an M. The only blue egg layers I know of are Easter Eggers and Araucanas, but while she doesn't have the signature tufting of Araucanas she certainly fits descriptions of the breed. Anyone care to help out?

Her cape is a little bald, she plucked a few feathers out from stress on the way home.

Yeah, from the sound of it she's a smooth-faced Araucana. I only dismissed the Easter Egger because the breeder stated she doesn't lay green or pink eggs, just blue. She was shown with a cream-colored Ameraucana (with the signature muff) that also laid blue eggs but was worse for wear.

Well got confirmation from a friend who raises chickens here in my area, she says she's an Araucana mix, possibly Easter Egger. Only because the color isn't typical for a pure Araucana. Thanks everyone for the help!

I would say her parents were araucana cross with something else. Your typical araucana should look like this. Yes, not all are tufted. The tufts are a lethal gene tha cause 100% egg fatality if bred tufted to tufted.

In reality, any bird can be born without a tailhead. It happens sometimes and is a genetic thing.
