The other day I was trying to get one of my roos attention and he seemed standoffish. Not totally out of the ordinary, but it seemed off. After giving up and walking away, he chased after me. Figuring he was looking for treats, I reached down to point some out. That's when he jumped up and bit at my hand- full on cackle feather bite. He's a big baby- runs to me when the alpha is chasing him. Even the alpha is not aggressive to people. I came in and removed the finger cot and since then he acts his normal self. I think the finger cot messed with his head. Any realism to this thought?

Maybe your guy is like my guy. He seems to hate the color blue. At first I thought he hated orange when I wore a Detroit Tigers shirt into the run for the first time. (Or else he likes another team...) But that shirt has blue on it as well.

I have garden gloves that I wear for poopy scooping. When I wore the blue ones, he went after my hand. If I wear the red ones, he doesn't. He seems to dislike the blue cat litter scooper I use too, at times.

I've wondered if it has to do with them being able to see into the UV spectrum. Maybe blue glows, or something.

I once read an article for hunters about being careful what detergent you use to wash your hunting clothes. Some have optical "brighteners" to make them "whiter." The article had photographs of clothes washed in common name detergents (Tide? All? Not sure.) and then photographed under UV light. Wow, they looked strange.

It was something that looked different, so he reacted to that....maybe that's all it was.
I think that's all it was. Yesterday he went after my wife's rubber boots with chicken prints on them, but only the boots. If his behavior becomes a problem, he will be gone.
How old is he, in weeks or months?
9 months. Yes, still cockerel, but roo is easier to type.
Curious about the finger cot.
Not sure if it was because it was covering my finger or because it was blue. Pretty sure he didn't like it tho.
What state/country is Devils Millhopper in?
Just click on it down there under my screen name. It should open a map in a new tab. That's a really neat feature on this site.
