This is my six-week-old Whiting True Blue, Sapphire. He/she is the blue one, the other chick is another Whiting for comparison. They both have pea combs. You can't really tell from the pictures, but its comb is the deepest red of all of the chicks.

They might be a roo...but since they look like an EE and EEs generally have redder combs and such I'd say at this point that it's a pullet. Has it displayed any rooster-like behavior?

Other than being the flightiest of all of them, no. I'm going to point out that they're developing spurs on their legs, but I know firsthand what a liar that is. Out of our fifteen chickens, three were roos, and six had spurs. Moonbeams's were over four inches, and she was our best layer.

😆 right, hens often develop spurrs, they aren'r usually as long or pointy as roosters, but there are exceptions to the rule. In fact, in the absence of a rooster some hens grow longer spurrs and even start crowing!

Darn confusing chickens. You gotta love 'em. But yeah, I guess that chicken does have some rooster behavior. Namely, jumping straight up if I try to catch them, and staring me down from the top of the window. But I guess some hens are like that too... This is why it's hard to tell genders apart. "You can look for this, but 30% of hens have that. You can also look for that, but it's kind of a fifty-fifty." Sigh...

Right! Oh well, she looks like a hen, and you'll know for sure when she lays an egg, or not!
