I have 9 broad breasted turkeys that are3 months old. They had a pretty bad feather picking issue and I was using blue kote on them every day until a month ago when the issue has seemed to resolve itself. I read on the can after I have been using it that blue kote is not for animals meant for consumption. This is confusing since the person at tax recommended using it on my meat turkeys. Will these birds be ok to eat? I know many people that use it on meat birds but I don’t know why the can has that disclaimer.

Probably because it can take a long time to wear off. You could end up with blue stained carcasses. That would be my guess, plus there may be stuff in it you shouldn't eat. Bluekote doesn't just was off the skin easily and many folks eat poultry skin.

The active ingredients are Gentian violet, which is sometimes used to treat fungal infections inside your mouth, Sodium propionate, a food additive/preservative, glycerol (found everywhere. It won't hurt you) and rubbing alcohol. Lots of rubbing alcohol. Also, acriflavine. Of which I have never heard before, but which is apparently pretty toxic. On the plus side, there's only 0.15%.

I don't think anything there is going to hurt you.
